Urge Your Members of Congress to Join Dear Colleague Letter in Support of HoUsed Campaign’s Infrastructure Priorities!

Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY) are circulating a "Dear Colleague" Letter urging congressional leaders to include the HoUSed campaign's top priorities in any infrastructure package:

A major expansion of Housing Choice Vouchers to pave the way toward universal rental assistance for all eligible households;
$70 billion to repair and preserve public housing for current and future generations; and
$45 billion for the national Housing Trust Fund to build and preserve new homes affordable to America's lowest-income and most marginalized households.

As our country continues to recover from the pandemic, many low-income renters continue to be left behind. Without robust affordable housing investments, there is no path forward for the lowest-income, most marginalized families in America to achieve long-term financial stability. As negotiations for an infrastructure package continue, it is important that Congress include bold investments in long-term affordable housing solutions.

A “Dear Colleague” letter being circulated by Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY) supports the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s (NLIHC’s) HoUSed campaign’s top priorities and urges congressional leaders to include them in any final infrastructure package. At minimum, any infrastructure package should include the following key affordable housing investments:

1) $70 billion to address the public housing repair backlog, 
2) $45 billion for the national Housing Trust Fund to build and preserve homes affordable to the lowest-income households, and 
3) Multi-year mandatory funding for a major housing voucher expansion towards achieving universal rental assistance to all eligible households.
